It was the rainy season in northern Africa. And in Ethiopia, this means flash storms and serious flooding.

Addis Ababa was clearly not designed for rain. The first hint was the signs, “thirteen months of sunshine!” The second was the street vendors selling umbrellas.

Take it from a Seattleite: no one living where it frequently rains uses an umbrella.

I couldn’t help but proudly walk and insanely laugh when the freak hail storms started. It was just so cute— people running screaming and crowding under what little cover could be found…
